My adventure with Marika Mag
It was different this time: it's the fourth time they've published a photo shoot of me in a magazine and this time it's also a visual art magazine, not "simply" fashion.
How it happened, I'll tell you the story:
One evening I receive a message on Instagram saying in English “Hi, I stumbled upon your profile and I really like your work. I am the editor of MarikaMag magazine, why don't you send us some shots to evaluate for publication? We are always looking for particular talents."
Intrigued and grateful for this message, I started looking for the magazine (because I didn't know it) and having ready a report that I had shot with my photographer friend Anahi and my muse Mariantonietta , I decided to send it to her.
After two days, I received the email in which they told me that the service had been very welcome and that they would publish it in the next issue together with other artists such as visionary photographers, sculptors, make-up artists.
Indeed, this service of mine uses makeup as a tool to tell a story and an emotion, it is not the protagonist of the work.
My artistic tricks are all like this, makeup becomes a tool to convey something "higher".
Now that I've told you the story, let's move on to the practical part of the question: what do you need to get published in a fashion magazine!
1. Decide beforehand whether it should be a portrait shoot, therefore close-ups (or at most some American shots) or full-length. After this decision, you will understand if you will also need clothes, locations, etc
2. Flawless makeup (I mean no smudges, straight lines, symmetry), I don't recommend retouching your makeup in post production. If a PC does it, it's no longer your job, understand?
3. A good photographer or if you shoot yourself, make sure you have acquired the skills to be able to shoot (especially on light management)
4. Decide if you also want to take care of the hairstyle or if you want to delegate this thing.
Once this lineup is completed there is a super question to answer:
With these shots do I want to send a message or show my technical expertise or do I want to "adapt" to what the magazines are asking for at the moment?
Magazines focus each issue on a theme and each publication of the month or bimonthly must be in line with that theme. There are therefore 2 possibilities:
- I do my photo shoot by launching the ics message and I'm willing to wait until a magazine has that thing as its theme.
- I look at what magazines are looking for and create something specifically for that theme.
We don't have the guarantee of publication, certainly in this world there is only death.
. On the other hand, it is true that 4 out of 4 applications were published to me.

When you decide to create, you put yourself out there and to work you don't have to have filters, don't be afraid to show yourself to the world out there!
